Page quality and Misrepresentation

Merchants sometimes see a Merchant Center account review that uses the word Misrepresentation next to a pile of product disapprovals. Misrepresentation is Google’s policy about the business and the landing page not being trustworthy: the shopper cannot tell who is selling, the page does not match the offer, or the destination does not work. This app does not decide that policy and it does not read account-level reviews.

What the app can check are page facts that show up in those same inboxes because the product URL is a poor destination. Google’s crawl and landing-page notes are Product crawl issues, Product page unavailable, and Inaccurate availability.

Shopify causes

The product URL is a 404, a home-page redirect, or a collection. Advertising a product that does not open is a destination failure. See Destination not working.

The page price or availability does not match the feed. A shopper who clicks an in-stock price and lands on a sold-out page, or a different price, is the mismatch Google’s availability and price checks describe.

The storefront is down or behind a password. A 5xx or a password wall means the destination cannot be reviewed. See Product page unavailable.

Required offer markup is missing. Google cannot confirm price, availability, or condition from the page. See Missing microdata for condition.

Identity, checkout promises, and business paperwork are outside this app. A clear scan does not answer a Misrepresentation review.

What to change

  1. Open every disapproved product URL, including `?variant=`, and confirm it returns the product with a 200.
  2. Make the on-page price and availability match the variant in Shopify, in structured data and on the button.
  3. Remove products from the Google & YouTube channel when they are draft, archived, or no longer sold.
  4. Take the storefront password off while the destination has to be crawlable.
  5. For an account review that asks who you are or how checkout works, use Google’s review instructions. This app does not store that paperwork and does not file an appeal.

How PageCop detects it

The app does not detect Misrepresentation. It detects the page-quality issues above: destination status and redirects, availability mismatches, price mismatches, and missing or invalid structured data. Use those issue names as the page work. Do not treat a finished scan as a policy decision.

FAQ

Can this app lift a Misrepresentation suspension?

No. Suspensions and appeals are handled in Merchant Center. The app never signs in to Google. Fixing a 404 or a price mismatch is still worth doing, because those are separate item disapprovals, but it is not an appeal.

Should I keep scanning during a review?

Yes, if you want a list of product URLs that fail before you reply. The list is evidence from the crawl this app performed. It is not Google’s review file.
